The Tamara Di Tella Method
Method and Creativity
February 15, 2009
Right off the bat, let me tell you that I firmly believe in the extraordinary benefits of Pilates. I've been a proud member of the Pilates community of Studios and School directors since 1999. Now, a decade later, I am the President of the world’s largest chain of Franchised and Licensed Pilates Studios with strong presence (more than fifty studios) in the five points of the globe. I love the original Reformer apparatus that started the method of Joseph Pilates, which is a wonderful and constantly evolving discipline that took the world by storm back in the year 2000-2001.
Faithful to the creative, ingenious, inventive and innovative philosophy of the American people, Joseph Pilates included (by adoption), I also enjoy experimenting with different types of movements. Like yoga, dance, stretching, you name it.
In all venues of life, I've always thought outside the box, and over the years I've always appreciated inventiveness even if it went against my interests in the beginning, like opening the first Spa of Buenos Aires, or the first Pilates Studio when Pilates was far from going mainstream and when I had to explain the meaning of the term!
I’ve been writing on health and fitness issues as a journalist and as author of my books, which this year add up to ten. Exercise and nutrition are my most preferred topics of interest and know how. I dedicate quite some time of my daily activities to training, weight, cardio and otherwise always outdoors.
I am always curious for more and new discoveries! I’ve explored dance, Pilates, yoga, Chi Qong, Tai Chi, Tango, but of all, the one that caught my attention lately is Tango music!
Thanks to Tango music, I discovered and started studying the work of famous neurologists such as Harvard Medical School Dr Oliver Sacks, M.D., and even opened my Tamara Di Tella Rehab Room at a public hospital for patients with severe dysfunctions of the motor system.
This, let me tell you, was no weekendworkshop. Believe, these five years in a hospital with patients meant to me much more than my Masters degree in London U., and my Ph.D. candidacy at Stanford U. put together!!
I am a student and a researcher at heart and I am still looking, searching for new contributions to my favorite classic Pilates exercises. As it turns out, I gave out many Licenses with my new method and routines (Tangolates) than with classic Pilates and this is due to the fact that people are always, always, interested in creative and innovative moves.
But, let me tell you off the bat again, I am not trying to improve Pilates in any manner. Oh, no. That would be disrespectful. I simply borrow from the best to make my own, very modest contribution.
